Twitter blocks Donald Trump's account (Photo: Twitter), Jakarta – Twitter is taking firm steps by blocking the official account of Donald Trump. This policy was taken because Trump's post sparked violence in the United States (US) Capitol building.

“After carefully reviewing the latest tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the surrounding context, we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement to violence,” explained Twitter.

The tweet that Trump made on Friday afternoon violated the company's policy on violence. Two of Trump's tweets have come under the spotlight.

First was a tweet about a Trump supporter that read, “75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GREAT VOTE in the future. They will not be insulted or treated unfairly in any way, or form !!! ”

As quoted from CNN, Saturday (9/1/2020), the second tweet indicated that Trump will not attend the inauguration of Joe Biden as the new US president on January 20, 2021.

“To all who ask, I will not attend the inauguration on January 20,” Trump tweeted. Twitter said this tweet could be interpreted as Trump saying the inauguration would be a “safe” target of violence because he was not present.

If another account is found that Donald Trump might use to speak out on Twitter, then Twitter will also block that account.

Meanwhile, for government accounts that might be misused, Twitter has also prepared anticipatory steps.

“For government accounts, such as @POTUS and @WhiteHouse, we will not suspend these accounts but will take measures to limit their use,” said Twitter.

“However, this account will be transferred to the new administration in due time and will not be suspended by Twitter unless absolutely necessary to reduce the dangers in the real world,” he continued.

After Twitter officially blocked Donald Trump's account, a tweet emerged from the @POTUS account, which Trump alleged was abused or someone acting on his behalf.

“As I have said for a long time, Twitter has increasingly banned free speech, and tonight, Twitter employees have coordinated with Democrats and Left Radicals in deleting my account from their platform, to silence me,” wrote a tweet on the @POTUS account.

For information, @POTUS is the official Twitter account used by the US President-elect. Starting January 20, 2021, this account will be used by Joe Biden as the new US President. (HR / MF)
